Change and Continuity



The CCOT essay asks you to identify what has changed and what has stayed the same. Here you must be as detailed as possible with your knowledge of the material.

CCOT essays include definate time spans for analysis. You must stick within the bounds you are given. It is a good idea to sketch a brief timeline that is relevent to the question.

  • Read the question several times and make sure you understand it
  • Draw a quick timeline to organize your thoughts
  • Write a thesis that answers the question
  • Describe in a paragraph the situation at the starting point of the time span
  • Focus on both continuities and changes
  • make sure the continuities cover the entire span of the question
  • Bring in the big picture context of these changes
  • Facts! - Content = King!
